And if I can and do change, you can (and are) too.
If your friends aren’t obsessed with plants, are they really even your friends? If we don’t care for the planet, are we even human? Are we conscious? We often consider ourselves the most intelligent species on the planet, but would truly intelligent beings actively destroy their own bodies, their own homes?
Perhaps, but not ones that are aware of their actions and the implications they have on our ecosystem. I don’t say this to denigrate you, me, and everyone we know. I realize there’s nothing new in this sentiment. This is a reminder to my Self, that which resides in me and beyond me, that we ARE better than this and need to live accordingly.
I left religion years ago, and if I do have a faith, it’s an exoteric practice that demands that I not live in contrast to the truths that I have experienced first-hand. For this reason, I do not drink alcohol. For this reason, I do not eat animal products. For this reason, I do what I can to minimize any purchases and actions that could be complicit with what I see to be directly responsible. I’m not sharing these words out of pretension (as if I’ve found some “elevated” way of being that allows me to condescend) but rather because through transforming my behaviors in accordance to this creed, I too have been transformed — within and without. And if I can and do change, you can (and are) too.
