Hi, I’m Mars.

ask me what “i am” in the sense of creative practices, and i split into several bodies, each pointing to the others, never quite one fully and never quite not one at all.

my background is in journalism but my childhood is in novels and music. after (quite literally) stumbling into photography and filmmaking, it became clear: no matter the medium, my ability is to remain in a moment’s natural friction and convey that experience as i best “see.”

as a solo artist, I do not typically do highly staged settings or premeditated poses (unless operating with a team). instead, I witness the wonder of a moment as it naturally exists, finding and following the central spark.

offerings:

  • photography: electric-photojournalistic, fly-off-the-wall documentation of people, events, and projects

  • filmmaking: cinematic stories with feeling and presence

  • writing: human-centered copy, long-form journalism, and immersive screenwriting with decades of development in voice, tone, and clarity.

Manifesto:

To make art — and I mean art, not advertisements or pop jingles ... something from the soul (although ads and pop can be that, just often are not) — is to expose yourself. Yes, to others, but perhaps the scariest part is turning over the stones of memories, ideas, and emotions and revealing them to yourself.

Not for vanity. Not for glory. Not for riches. But for healing and for truth.

Rend your clothes, the layers of little lies you whisper to yourself, and re-spin the threads. Weave them into the fabric of your life, your creative force. You don’t need a pattern to follow other than the rhythmic thud of your own blood. Let it ring in your ears as you submerge yourself into the murky depths of your process, no matter how ramshackle, and take rest on the surface of your growing awareness.
